I am passionate about the outdoors and I like to share that passion with others through guiding, instructing and participation with friends. I love spending time out in the hills: adventuring, wandering and observing. My lifelong experience and interest culminated in 2008 by being a member of a pioneering expedition in the Indian Himalaya. We made the first ascent of a 6135m peak and subsequent exploration in unvisited glacial valleys (read an account of the trip in resources section).

I hold both the Winter and International Mountain Leader Awards (see www.mltuk.org) as well as being a Leave No Trace Master Educator (see www.leavenotraceireland.org) . I enjoy hill walking, mountaineering, rock climbing and exploration in Ireland, Scotland, Europe and the greater ranges. I am a member of BAIML (see www.BAIML.org) and have professional indemnity / public liability cover through the BAIML scheme and personal and professional cover with Perkins Slade through the British Mountaineering Council, worldwide, expedition level.

As well as being a freelance mountaineering instructor and trekking guide, I also work part time at home on a small holding organic market farm and on renovating an old farmhouse using sustainable building methods. I have a particular interest in edible wild foods and the uses of that which grows naturally in our wild places. My other hobbies are surfing, snowboarding, mountain running and I have an active interest in community led initiatives like Transition Towns and Grow It Yourself. This website is being built using Joomla, a free content management system. Its based on a template made by some developers - there are many free template sites available online. The content and organisation was done by me (DÓM). This part requires minimal technical knowledge, you just need to learn some basic Joomla programming structures and be organised.  The site was installed and debugged by Diarmuid Collins - thanks to DC, he also installed the fancy plug-in stuff: the calendar, photo application and more, and gave his opinion on layout & look.
